Information for Paraeducators (Teaching Assistants, Interns, and Student Teachers)

Listing of Muir Teaching Assistants – If your name is listed incorrectly please e-mail me , or fill out a Request to Add/Change Staff Listing and drop it in my box in the Main Office. If I don't have your photo, please e-mail me one, or drop by room 216 and I'll take a photo of you. (Mr. Friedman)

California School Employees Association (CSEA) – School classified employees union.

LAUSD Credential & Contract Services – Assists Interns in renewing their contracts. Intern contracts expire each June 30th and must be renewed.

Los Angeles Apprentice Teacher Program – earn while you learn!

Scholarship and Loan Information

LAUSD Career Ladder Financial Aid information – includes reimbursement forms for tution, scholarship request forms, and forms for reimbursement of testing fees.

Career Ladder Scholarship

APLE Teacher Incentive Loan – The California Student Aid Commission will pay off up to $19,000 in outstanding student loan balances in return for four consecutive years of teaching service in selected teaching fields. Visit the CSU APL website for more information.

Federal Perkins Loan Teacher Cancellation Program – You can cancel up to 100% of your Federal Perkins Loan by teaching in selected areas. Visit the Federal Perkins Loan Teacher Cancellation website for more information.

California Credit Union loan information for teachers in training and paraeductors. Paraeducators can borrow up to $1,500.

Career Ladder

California School Paraprofessional Teacher Training Program (CSPTTP). State-funded program of scholarships for paraeducators studying to become teachers. (Did you know CSTTP can save $56 off your Certificate of Clearance (criminal record background check?))

Career Ladder Program – Get up to $3,000/year to reach your goal of becoming a teacher. LAUSD Career Ladder Conference (April 21, 2007). Contact LAUSD for date of next conference.

Career Ladder On-Campus Advisors are available at CSUDH, CSUN, CSULB, CSULA Cal State campuses.

Career Ladder will reimburse you for exam preparation courses including CBEST, CSET, and RICA.

Teach for America

Teach for America program brings volunteers to America's schools. Summer school only.
