Room 210 Computer Lab

Facilities include 52 Dell desktop computers for students, and two mobile carts containing 20 Apple iBook laptops each. All of the computers, including those on the mobile carts, have Internet access (those on the carts have wireless access). Staff may schedule time in the lab for classes by contacting Mr. Padilla, below. Teachers wishing to bring a class to the lab must submit a Request to Use Computer Lab to Mr. Padilla (72 hours notice required). Unsupervised students may NOT be sent to the lab.

35 Apple Macintosh eMac computers are available in Room 216. These computers are used for regular Introduction to Computers classes during normal school hours, but are available Period 3, after school, and on Saturdays. For information on these computers, contact Mr. Paul Friedman, Computer Teacher (e-mail: paulfriedman7@yahoo.com).

Acceptable Use Policy

Everyone who uses computers at Muir, both students and staff, is required to complete and sign an LAUSD Acceptable Use Policy statement. Users agree to abide by District rules for acceptable conduct on computers. Users agree to keep their passwords secret and not to interfere with other computer users. Users agree not to conduct business activities on LAUSD computers. Users agree not to threaten or harass others. Turn signed policy statements into Mr. Padilla in the Computer Lab.

E-Mail Accounts

E-mail accounts are available to students through the Gaggle e-mail system. To set up e-mail accounts for your students, contact Mr. Padilla in room 210. Two weeks notice is required to set up accounts for a class. Students and their parents must sign an Acceptable Use Policy statement before Mr. Padilla will activate his/her e-mail account.

Equipment Loans

Faculty may check out one or both of two mobile carts containing 20 Apple iBook laptops each. The computers have wireless Internet cards. The carts have printers and wireless Internet switches. Also available for 72-hour check-out by the staff are a digital still camera, a digital video camera, and digital projectors.

Muir Website

The "official" Muir website, muirmiddle.org, is administered by Mr. Padilla. Faculty and staff can set up their own web pages. Contact Mr. Padilla for information on this site.

The school also has an auxiliary website (the one you are currently viewing), muirms.com. Faculty and staff can also post information on this site as well. Contact Mr. Friedman in Room 216 for information on muirms.com.

E-Waste

E-Waste (non-working or obsolete computer and electronic equipment, including televisions and computer printers) is considered toxic waste and cannot be put in dumpsters. LA City has program for collecting e-waste as does LA County. Private companies also have sites (free collection is available for 30 or more pieces).
